What a contrast between the two cover versions presented in this column. The Sleater-Kenney is great-the perfect tug of war between the familiar and the different that makes a cover interesting and powerful. The Dylan is sad, even pathetic -an old guy singing a song he clearly loves ,but that he doesn’t have the vocal chops to put across. On the other if Dylan was “a complete unknown” doing this at a Karaoke bar it would be unforgettably poignant and great. If Dylan wanted to sing Ave Mario ,or O Solo Mio who’s gonna tell him no at this point ? But someone should say “What is this shit”?
